What is this car’s battery worth?

Remaining warranty, expected state of health, battery lease and cost of a failure. All at once — and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

We check, we don’t certify. The date of first registration is shown in box B of the V5C logbook. The state of health given is a range calculated from the battery’s age, mileage and chemistry: only a measurement on the vehicle gives a figure.

Battery versions of the Fiat 500e

A model sold over several years does not have the same battery from start to finish, and two versions are often sold side by side. Identify yours: capacity and chemistry change the range, the expected degradation and the cost of a replacement.

The expected state of health of a Fiat 500e battery

Three model years of this car, at the average French annual mileage of 9,321 miles, each with its chemistry. These ranges describe where a comparable battery usually sits, not yours: use, climate and charging habits spread the fleet widely.

  • 2020 model year81 to 90%6 years, 55,923 miles, chemistry not recorded
  • 2023 model year88 to 95%3 years, 27,962 miles, chemistry not recorded
  • 2026 model year98 to 100%under a year, chemistry not recorded

For a figure rather than a range, you need a measurement on the car. What state of health means and how it is measured.

What the energy costs per 100 miles

Charged at home, a Fiat 500e uses between £5.51 and £7.89 of electricity per 100 miles.

By comparison, a recent petrol car averages 38.7 mpg (7.3 L/100 km) in real-world use: about £20.30 of fuel per 100 miles, at the average price of unleaded petrol (£1.728 per litre on 2 November 2026).

Bottom of the range: the WLTP official consumption, from 4.2 to 4.8 miles/kWh depending on the version. Top: 25% more, the measured gap between official figures and real-world use. Electricity at £0.2632 per kWh, the Ofgem price cap.

Charging at a public charge point: prices vary too much from one operator to another to be given here.

Charging at home: a night on a plug

Plugged in for 8 hours on a 3-pin plug, a Fiat 500e adds between 60 and 90 miles; on a 16 A commando socket, between 100 and 140 miles, depending on the version and how it is driven.

The Fiat 500e battery

Sold since 2020, with a pack of about 42 kWh.

The Fiat 500e pack can be repaired module by module. When only one module is at fault, the repair costs far less than a new pack.

Which battery does the electric Fiat 500 have?

The electric Fiat 500, or 500e, on sale since 2020, comes with two batteries: 23.8 kWh on the entry-level Action and 42 kWh on the others. Both packs have been built side by side since launch: the model year will not tell them apart, so check the version on the advert or the invoice.

The battery was never offered on lease: it always belongs to the car. The pack can be repaired module by module, which limits the cost of a fault out of warranty.

How long does the electric Fiat 500 battery last?

Nobody publishes a lifespan in years for these packs, and that is not the right question anyway. A battery wears with the number of cycles, with heat and with rapid charging. With an official efficiency of 4.2 to 4.8 miles/kWh, a 42 kWh 500e completes a full cycle every 175 to 200 miles, a 23.8 kWh one every 100 to 115 miles: at 6,000 miles a year, that is around thirty full cycles for the first and around sixty for the second. For the same mileage, the small battery works twice as hard.

What matters for a used 500e is the measured state of health: the section above gives the expected range by year. Before you buy, ask for a battery health check.

The 500e battery warranty

Fiat’s warranty booklet in Italy covers the 42 kWh battery for 8 years or 160,000 km (about 100,000 miles), whichever comes first, with a replacement if capacity drops below 70%, provided the scheduled servicing has been done: keep the invoices. The 23.8 kWh battery is not in it, and sources disagree on its cover (100,000 km, about 62,000 miles, over 5 or 8 years). Terms vary from country to country: the ones for yours are shown on this page.
