The battery in a Renault Twizy may be leased

On 2012 – 2017 model years, the battery could not be bought: it is leased, and a monthly fee comes on top of the price of the car. On the other years concerned, both options existed and only the first owner’s contract settles the question.

What this changes, and what listings rarely say: a leased battery remains covered by its contract, often beyond the manufacturer warranty, but the lease passes on with the car and the leasing company can refuse the transfer. Ask for the lease contract and a recent bank statement showing the payment before you sign: it is the only reliable proof.
