What is this car’s battery worth?

Remaining warranty, expected state of health, battery lease and cost of a failure. All at once — and nothing you enter leaves your browser.

We check, we don’t certify. The date of first registration is shown in box B of the V5C logbook. The state of health given is a range calculated from the battery’s age, mileage and chemistry: only a measurement on the vehicle gives a figure.

Battery versions of the Renault Mégane E-Tech

A model sold over several years does not have the same battery from start to finish, and two versions are often sold side by side. Identify yours: capacity and chemistry change the range, the expected degradation and the cost of a replacement.

The expected state of health of a Renault Mégane E-Tech battery

Three model years of this car, at the average French annual mileage of 9,321 miles, each with its chemistry. These ranges describe where a comparable battery usually sits, not yours: use, climate and charging habits spread the fleet widely.

  • 2022 model year86 to 94%4 years, 37,282 miles, chemistry not recorded
  • 2024 model year91 to 97%2 years, 18,641 miles, chemistry not recorded
  • 2026 model year98 to 100%under a year, chemistry not recorded

For a figure rather than a range, you need a measurement on the car. What state of health means and how it is measured.

What the energy costs per 100 miles

Charged at home, a Renault Mégane E-Tech uses between £6.52 and £8.52 of electricity per 100 miles.

By comparison, a recent petrol car averages 38.7 mpg (7.3 L/100 km) in real-world use: about £20.30 of fuel per 100 miles, at the average price of unleaded petrol (£1.728 per litre on 2 November 2026).

Bottom of the range: the WLTP official consumption, from 3.9 to 4.0 miles/kWh depending on the version. Top: 25% more, the measured gap between official figures and real-world use. Electricity at £0.2632 per kWh, the Ofgem price cap.

Charging at a public charge point: prices vary too much from one operator to another to be given here.

Charging at home: a night on a plug

Plugged in for 8 hours on a 3-pin plug, a Renault Mégane E-Tech adds between 55 and 75 miles; on a 16 A commando socket, between 90 and 120 miles, depending on the version and how it is driven.

The Renault Mégane E-Tech battery

Sold since 2022, with a pack of about 60 kWh.

The Renault Mégane E-Tech pack can be repaired module by module. When only one module is at fault, the repair costs far less than a new pack.

Which battery does the Mégane E-Tech have?

The Renault Mégane E-Tech has come with two batteries since 2022, both with LG nickel (NMC) cells:

  • EV40, 40 kWh usable, dropped from the range for a few months in 2023;
  • EV60, 60 kWh usable, the most common on the used market.

The trade name, EV40 or EV60, appears in the advert and in the vehicle documents: it is what tells you the range, not the model year. A facelift with a 67 kWh LFP battery is announced for 2026: this page does not cover it yet.

Warranty, lease and recall

In France, Renault warrants the battery for 8 years or 160,000 km (about 100,000 miles), with a 70% capacity threshold announced for its whole E-Tech range. A 2022 Mégane therefore stays covered until 2030, unless it passes 160,000 km first.

No Mégane E-Tech was sold with a leased battery: the model arrived after Renault dropped that formula. The battery always belongs to the car.

No recall concerns the battery: the 2025 recall is about the parking brake.

Price of a Mégane E-Tech battery

The pack can be repaired module by module: replacing one module costs €600 to €1,800 at an independent EV specialist, parts and labour. A new pack from the manufacturer network comes to about €12,000, for comparison. While the warranty runs, these amounts only concern damage it excludes, an accident for instance, which the insurer then covers according to the policy.

Faults reported by garages in France

  • BMS communication faults after an interrupted update.
  • Isolated modules under-voltage after long periods parked.
